Traditional keyboard controls
We wanted to recreate the old-school controls we grew up with — simple, shared, chaotic fun.
Do you remember those early 90s PC games? Many of them had local multiplayer — simple controls, easy to pick up, and so much fun. I personally miss that kind of interaction. The other player sat right next to you. They saw your moves, felt your physical reactions. Four players on one keyboard was a unique experience that led to very specific strategies and decisions.
Crappy player control gave the whole gameplay a strange but satisfying mix of frustration and randomness. It opened up a wide range of tactics, predictions, and quick adaptations to chaotic situations. Back then, we were asking for better graphics — but we didn’t realize that abstraction in games was actually a masterpiece of immersion.
Those times are gone, but we’re trying to bring that kind of experience back. We’re still not sure whether we’ll use keyboard controls or focus on local multiplayer with controllers. At this stage, we’re concentrating on PC peripherals. We believe that console players have a different gaming culture compared to PC gamers — especially those who have mastered the mouse and keyboard.
So no, we’re not trying to reinvent the wheel when it comes to controls. But we are aiming to create a specific kind of immersion — built on specific, tangible keyboard input.
